Victor Ikpeba Begs Igando-Ikotun LCDA Chairman To Upgrade Access Road Leading To Islamic Football Field

Former Super Eagles’ striker, Victor Nosa Ikpeba has sent out a special plea to the chairman of Igando-Ikotun Local Council Development Area, Senior Comrade (Dr) Lasisi Ayinde Akinsanya to ensure an upgrade of the access road to Islamic Field in the area.

Sports247 reports that, although the hugely popular playground has since been taken over by a private football promoter, Ikpeba reasoned that Comrade Akinsanya would also contribute to the discovery of talents in the community by ensuring stakeholders of football have easy access to the venue.

‘The Prince of Monaco’ made this declaration while speaking to Sports247 during the final of this year’s Seamoriow U15 League Championship, which he said he has attended since its inception, but always found the road difficult to pass.

While commending the organisers for a job well done and all the coaches for guiding their players with top-notch technical aspects of the round leather game, Ikpeba disclosed that he had to leave his car at home because of a nasty experience he had on the road in the past.

“I’ve been here many times before and, first of all, I want to commend the man behind this competition. He’s a fantastic young man who is very passionate about football development. He has a strong zeal to promote youth football in his own community.

“However, one major challenge he is facing is bad access roads to the venue. So, I am pleading, hoping that someone in the local government will hear me.
“The local government chairman should fix the road leading to this mini-stadium. That’s the biggest support they can give him, because he is helping to develop kids in the area through football.

“It has become a yearly ritual, with many people coming here with their family members and friends. I have also been here maybe three or four times since the inception of this tournament,” Ikpeba revealed.

While stressing that having a good road leading up the arena’s main gate will draw stakeholders from home and abroad to the venue, thereby boosting unity, tourism and commercial activities in the area, Ikpeba gave thumbs up to all the participating players and their coaches.

The 1997 African Footballer of The Year, who was part of the Golden Eaglets’ squad to the 1989 FIFA U17 World Cup in Scotland as well as Nigeria’s gold medal winning team at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, USA, posited that the players are getting what he did have at their age.
“It’s good to see so many talented players here, and I am happy that they are all young. These ones are the future of Nigeria’s football. They are also the future of Africa and the world at large.

“Their performances showed that they are well coached, and they are getting what I could not get when I was 13 years old. Football in those days was different from what we see now.

“It was based on individual brilliance, but we are now in a new era. Their passing is good, they have great ideas of what to do when they get the ball and they are building from the back.

“It shows that the boys are well trained. So, I want to commend all the coaches for doing a good job. The organiser is also doing a good thing, and people in this community should be proud of him,” Ikpeba submitted.
